Policies and Safety

Students wear protective glasses and receive instruction while operating power tools.

The School of Architecture and Planning Fabrication Workshop aims to foster a community that is open, welcoming, and safe for everyone. In addition to required safety instruction and procedures, we encourage students to support a positive approach to issues of safety.

Training

Prior to being permitted to use the shop, all architecture students must complete a comprehensive training course on personal protection equipment, general shop policies, and operation of all large power tools.

Support

For additional instruction and assistance with specific tools and techniques, shop staff are on hand during all open shop hours, with a full-time staff member always present to provide support and supervision.

Capacity

Our space is big, but still has its limits. To maintain a working environment that is within the safety capacity of our facility, all students must check in at the computer kiosk before entering the shop.
