Students in UB's MSRED program have launched UB's first student organization in real estate to support networking, engagement with the professional community, and student leadership development.
The student-run UB Real Estate Club (UBREC) targets students in UB's MS in Real Estate Development program but is open to any student at UB "with a passion for real estate." It seeks to help students form connections with other club members and with professionals in the real estate industry as well as create opportunities for students to dive deeper into topics of interest.
According to Mythea Mazzola (MSRED '22), who jump-started the effort last year with her classmates, the club was initially conceived to connect students amidst the dislocation of the pandemic.
"We noticed that there was no outlet for students who are passionate about real estate to come together outside the classroom," said Mazzola, who now serves as the club's inaugural president. "We wanted to create a club that expanded students' knowledge of the industry and created an outlet for students to explore their potential future careers."
Launched last month, the club already has a number of events lined up this semester including site visits, educational lectures from industry leaders, and networking events with WNY professionals in real estate. The group made its first outing last month with a tour of Seneca One Tower, a signature mixed-use development in downtown Buffalo.
The student club will work closely with the MSRED program's faculty members and an external Advisory Committee of local real estate professionals to cultivate outreach and professional development opportunities.

"We wanted to create a club that expanded students' knowledge of the industry and created an outlet for students to explore their potential future careers. This was especially necessary during the pandemic when classes all moved to a virtual format. This serves as a place where peers can connect and converse."
