Don Capoccia is the Founder and Managing Principal of BFC Partners, a vertically integrated real estate development, construction, and asset management firm based in New York City. Founded in 1986, BFC has developed and built approximately 20,000 residential units and 2 million square feet of commercial, retail, and community facility space across the five boroughs of New York City, as well as in Buffalo, Syracuse, and other upstate New York cities.

BFC’s core business includes the financing and development of affordable, mixed-income, and mixed-use workforce housing. Notable recent projects include Essex Crossing in Manhattan’s East Village, the Bedford Union Armory in Brooklyn, and Surf Avenue Houses in Brooklyn. Many of BFC’s developments have received award-winning recognition, particularly for their catalytic impact on local communities.

Don has served, and continues to serve, on several nonprofit and institutional boards focused on the arts, culture, architecture, and planning. He is currently Chairman of the Battery Park City Authority and a Trustee of La MaMa ETC, L’Alliance Française, and the New Museum. He has previously been appointed by President George W. Bush, Governors George Pataki and Kathy Hochul, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg to serve on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York City Water Board, and the United Nations Development Authority.

Don earned a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Affairs from the University at Buffalo and a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Hunter College. He lives in New York City with his husband and their children.
