    Martha Bohm examines the intersection of design with energy efficiency, healthy materials and ecological sensibility through research, teaching and critical practice. She is an associate professor of architecture and associate dean for academic affairs.

  • Randy Fernando
    Randy Fernando is an emerging designer and artist, focusing on work that synergizes neuroscience, sociological behavior, and architecture. He received his MArch degree in 2018 from the University at Buffalo, after completing his thesis, Visualizing The Cypher: Networking Relationships of Temporal Dance Environments and publishing Intersight 20: Interrelations of Process. Fernando then moved on to work as an architectural designer at NYC based firm, Heitler Houstoun Architects.

    Emmanuel Frimpong Boamah, associate professor of urban and regional planning, is a prolific scholar with interests in water governance and determinations of the appropriate institutional frameworks for dealing with water issues.

  • Miguel Guitart
    Miguel Guitart, assistant professor of architecture, is an architect, author, and scholar who explores architectural experience at the intersection of material narratives and sensory perception, focusing on physical boundaries, material memory, and non-material agents.
  • Hiroaki Hata
    Associate Professor Hiroaki Hata’s research and creative work focuses on the design, history, theory and criticism of urban structures and community development.
  • Daniel B. Hess
    Professor Daniel Hess's research is addressing interactions between housing, transportation, land use, and other public concerns. He develops new pathways for understanding the complex socio-economic and ethnic landscape of cities and spatial inequalities. He also explores equal access to resources from urban neighborhoods, focusing especially on the changes in gay neighborhoods and the LGBTQ+ population diffuses to other metropolitan locations.

    Joyce Hwang is associate professor and director of graduate studies with the Department of Architecture. Through her teaching, research and critical practice, she confronts contemporary ecological conditions through creative means.

  • Samina Raja
    Samina Raja is an international expert in planning and policy for sustainable food systems and healthy communities. She is professor of urban planning, principal investigator of UB's Food Lab and associate dean for research and inclusive excellence.
  • Nicholas Rajkovich
    Nicholas B. Rajkovich, assistant professor of architecture, investigates the intersection of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and adaptation to climate change. He directs UB's Resilient Buildings Lab.
  • Bartholomew Roberts
    Bart Roberts is an urban planner and researcher who specializes in bringing together research and practice to advance projects related to sustainability, community development, and public participation. He is associate director of research and faculty engagement for the UB Regional Institute.
  • Matthew Roland
    Matthew Roland, AICP, is the assistant dean for the real estate development program and clinical assistant professor. Matt has over 20 years of real estate experience, working on real estate and planning projects in most municipalities in Western New York and in over 20 states.

    Korydon Smith is professor and chair of architecture at UB and co-director of UB's Community for Global Health Equity. He works across disciplines to build design solutions for those who have been traditionally marginalized from decisions about the design of their built environment.
  • Jin Young Song
    Jin Young Song explores the possibility for more responsive, sustainable and place-based architecture through the contemporary façade. He is an associate professor of architecture and a founder of DIOINNO Architecture, a Buffalo- and Seoul-based design firm.

    Edward Steinfeld, SUNY Distinguished Professor of Architecture and director of the IDEA Center, has been a trailblazer in the field of inclusive design since the 1970s. He believes architecture should, first and foremost, benefit the people who use buildings, and make a positive contribution to the community.
  • Ernest Sternberg
    Professor Sternberg studies the relationship between planning theory and planning practice and has strong interests in the intellectual history of planning thought.
