2018 Climate Adaptation Symposium

Severe weather events such as Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and the "Snowvember" storm in 2014 caused extensive damage to buildings across New York State. The devastation from these storms has raised an imperative question for building professionals statewide: How do we prepare our buildings for future climate impacts?

This symposium will bring academics and practitioners from the Northeast and Great Lakes regions together to address critical climate resilience questions for New York State, including how industry professionals can continue and expand efforts to improve the state's building stock to respond to a changing climate and be more resilient.

Interact with researchers from NYSERDA, the University at Buffalo and other organizations who will share their findings on such key issues as climate hazards and costs of climate-related hazards for the state's building sector.

The event will feature the following keynote presentations along with more than a dozen featured speakers:

• Building Equitable Urban Resilience - Kristin Baja, Urban Sustainability Directors Network
• 4D! Resilient Design in Four Dimensions - Illya Azaroff, New York City College of Technology
