On Wednesday, October 24, planning scholars from around the nation will join with local subject matter experts and faculty and students from the UB School of Architecture and Planning to take a long-range view of what Buffalo Niagara needs to do to ensure that life here in the 21st century is healthy, prosperous, and equitable in the face of daunting challenges.
The Friday evening session will give the public an opportunity to hear the results of the workshop and to share their views on that work. This 50-year look into the future will encompass topics including housing and neighborhoods; economy and employment; land use, transportation, and metropolitan form; environment and energy; and governance and civic culture.
What kind of future for our city and region is likely in the face of climate disruption, demographic change, and technological innovation? What kind of future is desirable? And what kind of future is possible – depending on what we do now?
Web and print versions of the results will also be published so that this conversation about the future of Buffalo Niagara might be further extended, deepened, and sustained to inform ongoing planning and action in the city-region.
