Five freshman architecture students are recipients of the 2016 Hyatt’s Design Awards in recognition of their design excellence and studio participation. Nicholas Hills, Lisa Liang, Griffin Perry, Dylan Russ and Peter Vidulich II each received a $100 award from Hyatt’s All Things Creative, a go-to spot for generations of UB architecture students for course-required and general architectural supplies.
Directed by UB architecture professor Beth Tauke, the fall 2016 freshman studio explored connections and proportions in their progressive design of a warming hut from a single wooden interlock construction.
Company President Gregory Hyatt is a long-standing supporter of the School of Architecture and Planning. For years the Hyatt’s Design Awards have helped freshman architecture students with the costs of supplies. The company recently reinforced its support with a major capital gift to the renewal of Hayes Hall, which reopened in fall 2016 after a five-year, $45 million renovation. Hyatt’s now also supports the Gregory Hyatt Scholarship, offering merit- and need-based support to three sophomores per year. The school has named the first-floor reception area and the fourth-floor critique space in Hyatt’s honor.
