In the MArch program, Brice is part of two graduate research groups: Inclusive Design and Urban Design.

Samendy Brice is a first-year student in the Master of Architecture program.

As an undergrad in UB's architecture program, Brice was able to pursue her interests in sustainability, food and inclusive environments. During her senior year, Brice and design partner Emily Minkowitz won second place in the 2018 Senior Competition. Their project, "Bodgeda," focused on small business that provided different types of healthy ethnic foods for existing neighborhoods downtown. In 2018, she helped the Food Systems Planning and Healthy Communities Lab produce a special issue of the Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development.

In the MArch program, Brice is part of two graduate research groups: Inclusive Design and Urban Design, through which she has conducted research on UB’s new 2020 capital plan and small-town architecture across the United States.

Brice also supports students as a graduate assistant in the recruitment office and as a teaching assistant.

Brice's immediate professional goal is to work in a diverse architecture firm that works with people of color in low-income neighborhoods. Longer term, Brice hopes to pursue a PhD in urban and regional planning and establish her own design practice.

The School of Architecture and Planning's "Celebrating Black History, Investing in Black Futures" campaign, to continue throughout February as Black History Month, will shine a spotlight on the accomplishments and activities of our Black faculty, alumni, staff and students. The campaign will also recognize critical research and programs that celebrate the Black experience.

Note: We continue to have stories to share and so have extended our campaign through March.
