Buffalo School architecture professor Jin Young Song's design concept for “Prefabricated Apartment Remodeling Type” (or P-A-R-T) has been recognized with an AIANYS citation in the category of "Unbuilt Young."

Jin Young Song, assistant professor of architecture, has received funding from the New York State Council on the Arts to develop a facade that imitates the leaves of a tree in its dappling and diffusion of natural light.

This past spring break, while many students were vacationing or catching up on assignments, a contingent of School of Architecture and Planning students and faculty were busy presenting work, collaborating with partners and touring sites in South Korea.

Jin Young Song, assistant professor of architecture, has won the Grand Prize in the 2013 Hyundai Engineering & Construction Technology Forum for his proposal for a prefabricated unit for apartment remodeling.

Imagine an apartment tower that expands – and downsizes – in response to rapidly changing lifestyles. This off-the-charts smart building design has won UB architecture professor Jin Young Song first place in an international competition to consider design in the “self-evolving city.” 

Two award-winning design concepts by Jin Young Song explore sustainable building envelope strategies using elastic instability—the same technology used in Snap Bracelets. 

Jin Young Song recently spoke at the 2018 Conference on Advanced Buildings Skins in Bern, Switzerland. He presented a facade design prototype to harness electrical energy from vibrating motion form the building envelope, also shared insight on potential use of elastic instability in the building industry.
