rad Wales has 28 years experience working years as a sole practitioner registered in NY and NJ. His work focuses on community-based green projects, focusing on mixed-use design, streetscape and pocket park design, and passive solar design, with an overall emphasis on issues of durability.

Mr. Wales has taught at UB since 1997 as a Comprehensive Design instructor, specializing in mixed-use urban housing. Brad created a design-build program called the Small Built Works Project, an experimental effort that uses the City as its laboratory, while developing work in conjunction with local community groups. In 2005, Small Built Works won the NCARB Grand Prize for the creative integration of education and practice. In 2006, The Journal of Architectural Education featured “Energizing the Public Realm in Buffalo,” by Mr. Wales, in the “1:1” issue. Small selected for construction phase negotiations out of 46 entries.

Mr. Wales is a landscape designer, video, photography, performance, theater, and dance. He has been merging multi-media art and architecture for the past 30 years in Boston, New York, Princeton, Edinburgh, London, Barcelona, Venice, Rome, Mexico City, and Buffalo. In 2006, Brad founded nimbus dance with his wife, Beth Elkins, to create dense cabaret-style dance performances that deal directly with current events, especially environmental issues.
