The Ferguson Moment: Poverty, Politics, and Planning in a Fragmented Suburban Setting

Public Lecture

Wed., October 28, 2015
5:30pm-7:00pm
Crosby Hall, Room 301, UB South Campus

The turmoil in Ferguson, Missouri, has been framed by the media almost exclusively in racial terms. In fact, the underlying cause of the injustices denounced by the protestors is a volatile mix of race and class inequalities, driven by metropolitan development patterns that are reinforced by local political institutions. In this public lecture, Todd Swanstrom confronts the place-based inequalities behind these issues and the critical role planners have to play in this process.
