Currently under construction, the medical center of the University of Montreal (Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal, or 'CHUM') will be the hub of the city’s rapidly growing health care district. Architect and UB alumnus Gustavo Lima is principal of CannonDesign and project director of the CHUM for the top-20 multi-national firm with headquarters in Western New York. Mr. Lima, who also directs construction administration for CannonDesign, will provide an in-depth look into the full design process of the largest ongoing health care construction project in North America. The discussion provides a cross-cutting view into urban planning and design, project financing, architectural design, construction, and project-team communications.

Gustavo A. Lima, AIA, OAQ, LEED AP

A principal and director of construction administration at CannonDesign, Gustavo Lima has over 30 years of experience in architecture and construction management. Mr. Lima has an architecture degree from the University of Buenos Aires, and a Masters of Architecture in Advanced Building Technologies from the University at Buffalo. Mr. Lima is licensed in Buenos Aires, New York, and Québec, and is a LEED accredited professional.

Gustavo Lima’s area of interest resides at the intersection of design and construction, believing that both disciplines are essential components of a powerful client-centered architectural practice. Lima is CannonDesign’s project director for the CHUM, a $1.8 billion, 2.5-million-square-foot medical center under construction in Montréal, Canada.
