This year's journal of student work, Intersight 21, will explore how students formulate their design vision, and carry it to fruition over the course of the year.
Kevin Turner, 2018-19 Brunkow Fellow and editor of Intersight 21, says his goal is to create a more intimate view of the creative process and the intellectual connections across our school.
"Intersight has always been about the student - what they do and how they do it. In Intersight 21, we will continue the conversation, and explore how students conceive and conceptualize the idea," says Turner, a graduate of UB's Architecture BS and now a second-year student in the Master of Architecture program.
"We will share the inspirations of the student; and by extension, the inspirations of the school," he continued. Turner officially launched the publication recently at a school-wide event in Crosby Hall.
Since its founding in 1991, Intersight has served as the annual journal of student work at the School of Architecture and Planning. The publication celebrates the interconnections of architecture, planning and design while exploring the pedagogy of the school. Published as a printed book at the end of the academic year, Intersight is now complemented by an online gallery of student work and ideas.
Turner says he will also engage faculty and staff in his investigation of inspiration and creative motivation.
Students, as well as faculty and staff, are invited to submit images and reflective texts via an online submission form. Select submissions will be published on the school's new Intersight gallery of work, at ap.buffalo.edu/intersight.
Turner says his vision for the publication builds on the work of past Brunkow Fellows. In particular, the publication's first digital launch was piloted last year by Randy Fernando, the 2017-18 Brunkow Fellow and editor of Intersight 20., which sought to open dialogue on the creative processes at work across the school.
Ultimately, Turner says the journal will reflect on the pedagogy of the school and how it is shaped by the intellectual motivations of its students and faculty.
