URP 581/582 and ARC 627 Ecological Practices Studio: Reimagining Casco Bay, Maine: Designing for Extreme Climate Events in Coastal Cities

Brief description: This interdisciplinary studio uses scenario planning to help citizens of Portland and South Portland, Maine, design their future in response to sea-level rise, recurring storms, and deteriorating housing and port infrastructure. Scenarios propose transitions for seven critical areas through grafting, connecting, and repairing, offering a unified framework and site-specific solutions to redefine coastal urbanism and collective habitation.

END 450 Environmental Design Workshop 3: Bailey Avenue | Uniting Narratives

Brief description: Bailey Avenue and the surrounding Bailey-Kensington neighborhood have remained a focus of UB planning and architecture students for decades. This studio unites previous findings, proposes new solutions, and publishes these findings in a public catalogue. The project complements ongoing efforts by the City of Buffalo and the NFTA on Bailey Avenue streetscape and bus rapid transit projects.

Food Equity on Wheels: Spatial Impact of a Mobile Market on Buffalo’s Food Environment

Brief description: This project examines the Massachusetts Avenue Project’s Mobile Market, which delivers fresh, regionally grown produce to Buffalo neighborhoods with limited access to retail food. Thirteen Environmental Design students analyzed the market’s spatial impact and developed recommendations to improve food equity in Buffalo.

URP 581/582 Studio: Beyond the Walls: Bridging Preservation & Housing Innovation at the Richardson Olmsted Campus (Buildings 9 & 13)
