Working in close collaboration with the Buffalo Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, Professor Edward Steinfeld’s studio developed proposals for new-build homes to be assembled by Habitat volunteers.
The studio focused on cost-reduction, constructibility, and energy efficiency. Dylan Burns’ project uses Structurally Insulated Panels to speed up construction and improve energy performance, and places an ample driveway and full house on a 30-foot Buffalo lot. Josh Erni’s project is designed to blend in with neighboring houses while gracefully offering step-free access. Sadichchha Dhakhwa’s proposal features an open first floor plan, with options to convert a portion of the living space into an office, enclosed dining area, or accessible bedroom.
