Jin Young Song's Korean folk art-inspired design up for Architizer A+ Award

A ferry terminal in in Seoul, Korea, designed by Professor Jin Young Song has been nominated for an Architizer A+ Popular Choice Award, in the category of Unbuilt Transportation.
Unduk-Naru eschews the popular trend towards iconic structures by letting formal architecture roll right over its organic hill shape, and encouraging the variations in human behavior to become the façade which covers the functional requirements of the terminal. Residents will be invited to engage with the new space by purchasing engraved, pre-selected materials such as landscape planter boxes and walkable solar panels. This special part-to-whole relationship is inspired by the traditional Korean Jogakbo, a utilitarian cloth sewn together from reused fabric remnants.
The awards program celebrates the year’s best architecture, and the potential these projects have to make a positive impact on everyday life. Last year the A+ Popular Choice program received more than 400,000 votes. (Unduk-Naru project description.)
